Hello...2nd Trimester!

Well, this week I actually started to feel like my normal self again! My energy is back and my appetite is back! I was in NYC for work this past Tuesday and Wednesday and was not tired at all. It was a busy week and the weekend has seemed to disappear on us. We did do a little shopping this weekend and picked a few small things up for "gherkin." At this point, just "neuter" items until we know sex. We still have 6 more weeks until we find out...it seems like an eternity! But, it will be worth the wait!

In the meantime, here is my 14 week belly picture. It's a little blurry but you get the idea.

A Few More Pictures....

Here are a few more pictures of today's OBGYN visit!!

Due Date - AUGUST 6, 2010!!

So, today we had our first appointment with the new OBGYN who is awesome! When I fell down the stairs last week I had some issues with the way my OBGYN at the time handled it so we decided to switch since that made me very uneasy. They never answered the phone or returned my calls and the staff was not very friendly. I am so glad that we did decide to make a change!

The new doctor and staff is wonderful, caring and comforting. Jeff and I were just amazed by the difference in the two offices. We also had like a 30 minute ultrasound today because the tech was training a new staff person. Both were super sweet and did a wonderful job. They even had a flat screen TV mounted across the room so I could see everything! They also have 4D ultrasound which was so awesome. When we left they gave us a CD with pictures to take home as well as a print-out.

Our baby, "Gherkin," is looking fantastic and is growing ahead of schedule....the heartbeat was 154. Our due date of August 6, 2010 was confirmed! The baby bounced and jumped around my uterus the entire time and even a few times it looked like he/she was waving to us! It was a great day and we really felt connected to our little baby!

Ugh....a cold?? Really?

So, I am really not feeling my best this week! I am happy that I have hit the official 12 week mark! I am also very happy that Jeff and I have finally gone "public" with our news. Over the weekend I posted the news on Facebook as did Jeff. We received many wonderful wishes from friends and family...it was such a great feeling to share our excitement with everyone.

But, I have some kind of head/chest cold thing going on that is putting a slight damper on my spit its. The ER doctor put me on Augmentin since he suspected my headache was related to a sinus infection. I started the antibiotic late Monday but it has not done much yet. I have a sore nose and this annoying cough. I am still very tired. But, the nauseousness has seemed to let up a bit. I guess I thought when I hit 12 weeks I would feel like a new woman but that is not the case. But, I am hopeful over the next few weeks it will get better! It will all be worth it in the end.

Belly Time!

Well, here it is. My first belly picture at 11 weeks and 5 days. I just started to show so there is not too much to see. I am going to try and post a new picture once a week.

Intelligender Gender Prediction Test

Well, let me start off by saying I am a bit of a sucker! I had read about this test in various baby and pregnancy oriented magazines and on pregnancy web boards. Of course it is only 82% accurate and a bit pricey so I was torn as to if to try it. But, Jeff had to pick-up an RX at Walgreens yesterday so I wandered into the family planning section and checked it out. Walgreens had the test for $29.99. I told myself it must have been meant to be and I picked it up!

So, I took the test this morning and according to the test we are having a BOY! Of course, we will not be running out to buy paint for the nursery or anything like that. But, it will be fun to see at the 20 week ultrasound if the test was correct. My original gut feeling was that it was a boy, I had had a dream about a baby boy with bright blond hair. But, then alot of the old wives tales were pointing to a girl. Now we get to add this to the mix and see what happens at the ultrasound!

An Eventful Week...

Well, this week was a bit more drama filled than I wanted it to be! I was not feeling that well and had a headache for a two days straight. I decided on Thursday I was going to leave work early to go home and get some rest. I grabbed by bags and headed out only to fall down the stairs leading from my office to the ground floor. Everything in my bags flew down the stairs and I followed behind. Luckily, I landed on my bottom. I was of course shaken up because I had no idea if I had done anything to hurt the baby.

Public Safety was called and urged me to go to the emergency room. They actually tried to call EMS, but I convinced them to let Jeff come and get me. So, off we went to the emergency room at St. Mary's. The doctor ordered an ultrasound to make sure everything was ok with the baby. It was amazing how much the baby had grown in the course of just 2 weeks. As Jeff described it, the baby looked like it was dancing and had a nice strong heartbeat of 160. So, we both felt much better after the ultrasound. I was sent home to rest and ice anything that was sore.

I think more than anything I learned a lesson. I am now living my life for two and I need to slow down. I am always rushing to get things done and that is what causes accidents like this. I am thankful I learned the lesson now and not when I was much further along in the pregnancy.

The Ultrasound and a Sigh of Relief

On December 31, 2009, we had our first ultrasound and were able to see our little "gherkin" for the first time!

It was emotional and surreal all at the same time. For the past 8 weeks, I had stressed and agonized over the health of the baby. I kept wondering if the baby was ok? Was there really a baby in there? Is there a heartbeat? Is the baby growing like it should be?

So, when we finally had the opportunity to see "gherkin" and know he/she was healthy is was the best feeling in the world. We found out that the baby is growing a few days ahead of schedule and the heart rate was a strong 169! If the old wives tale is true then we might just have a baby girl on our hands!

Our Road to Parenthood....

I have been meaning to start this blog since we found out we were pregnant but finding out right before Thanksgiving and then with the holidays everything was a bit of a whirlwind. So, the first few posts I will be doing some back tracking and filling in the gaps.

Then in the coming months the plan is to post pictures (ultrasound photos, belly pictures, baby's room, etc) and well as updates from doctor's appointments and all of the fun Jeff and I encounter on this wonderful road to parenthood. Stay tuned....I am sure it will be interesting!

We are PREGNANT!

Luckily our journey to becomming parents-to-be did not take too long...it was actually surprisingly quick! The day before Thanksgiving I decided to take a pregnancy test. I had the day off from work and I really wanted to go and get my hair highlighted. My roots had been coming in and my hair was starting to look really bad! So, I thought I should take a pregnancy test to be on the safe side since we were trying. I did not want to get my hair colored if there was a chance I could be pregnant.

So, I rolled out of bed, took the test and then left it on the counter in the bathroom and headed back to bed. I told Jeff I had taken the test (we had planned from the beginning that we would always look at the test together so we would find out at the exact same time if we were pregnant). He was not due up for another 25 minutes!! There was no way I could lay there for 25 minutes....WAITING!

Within 3 minutes we were both up and headed into the bathroom. Jeff grabbed the test and flipped it over....PREGNANT! No ifs, ands or buts! It was a digital test and clear as day it read pregnant. Jeff had a feeling but I was in a little shock...a good kind of shock. I was thrilled but could not believe it.

Needless to say we had a whole lot to be thankful for this past Thanksgiving.
